Isn’t Spring supposed to be cooler than this?

“Isn’t Spring supposed to be cooler than this?”

Well Spring has officially sprung a leak and gone straight into Summer.  Maybe it’s always been this way or maybe my recollection has been replaced with something more idyllic.  Over the past few weeks we’ve continued changing up a few things in the store such as, putting up new blinds in the front window, and finding new publishers for a more eclectic offering of new books.  We changed up our magazine selection over this past month, deleting over 25 titles and adding almost 50 new titles for your perusal.  The end of May will bring some excitement with the announcement of the Columbia “One Read.”  Now if you are a faithful reader of this little micro-blog then we have a present for you.  Bring back this newsletter (or print this out) and receive a 10% discount on your next used book or magazine purchase.  This will be valid until June 30, 2012. Tax Lines in the Sand

Ever given thought to where you buy from? Worried about budget cuts in the state or increased taxes. Take a moment and think about the following.

Buying Online to Avoid Tax Costs Everyone in the End

While economists nationwide argue over whether we have begun to recover from the Great Recession, one financial reality is beyond dispute. Our state is facing the biggest budget challenge in decades. Even in a slowly rebounding economy, Missouri is faced with a projected mid-year budget shortfall of $690million, which means that local governments -- even if they raise school and property taxes -- are going to be cutting support for such essential services as policing, fire fighting, and schools.

The enormous irony in this troubling story is that Missouri is allowing hundreds of millions of dollars in sales tax to go uncollected by allowing remote online retailers with a significant business presence in our state to ignore their obligation to collect sales tax.
